Enchanted Armor Purchase

Cinnamon Bun

Enchanted Armor Purchase marks the point at which Broccoli Bunch’s improvised adventuring life is given a deliberate physical form. In a shop in Port Royal, he and Amaryllis select a light, custom-designed outfit rather than heavy conventional armor. The purchase supplies protection suited to Broccoli’s jumping-based movement and intended ranged role, adds practical enchantments for dangerous expeditions, and makes Amaryllis’s gratitude materially visible: she pays for the equipment herself because Broccoli prevented her from being kidnapped and held for ransom.

Setting and Need

The purchase takes place in an equipment shop that differs from the clothing stores around it. Instead of mannequins dressed in formal garments, it displays leather armor, sturdy practical clothing, and heavier options including plate and mail. Broccoli initially expects armor-related goods to come from a blacksmith, but Amaryllis explains that heavy equipment is poorly suited to harpies, who cannot afford to become lumbering brutes. Her comment also establishes the principle governing the transaction: quality adventuring equipment must serve the wearer’s movement rather than merely add weight.

Broccoli’s need is especially clear because his existing armor has been torn up, while his fighting method is unconventional. When questioned about his abilities, he describes weak direct combat, makeshift weapon proficiency, extensive Cleaning magic against undead and similar threats, and Jumping as one of his strongest skills. He identifies his desired team position as ranged DPS, a term Amaryllis does not recognize and associates with the strange world from which he came. The new equipment therefore responds not to a standard warrior’s profile but to a class-oriented adventurer who relies on mobility, utility magic, and distance.

Design and Enchantments

The selected design combines a leather chest piece with a tight cloth gambeson that flares into a skirt. Its large, poofy sleeves, built-in bandoleer, single left pauldron, and matching steel plate on the right hip give it a distinctive silhouette while preserving the practical requirements of an adventurer. The outfit is unusual enough that the skirt may appeal particularly to young women, yet its components remain functional rather than decorative. Broccoli’s immediate astonishment at the design signals that the equipment is more than a replacement for damaged armor: it is a tailored expression of the role he is trying to grow into.

The displayed price is one lesser gold and two pure silver for the unenchanted version, nearly enough to make Broccoli wince and a substantial portion of his gold. The shop can add durability and cleanliness, fireproofing for the cloth, humidity-wicking, mana absorption, or more specialized effects through an enchanter for an additional fee. Amaryllis recommends fireproofing, durability, and mana absorption as the most useful choices for Broccoli. Cleanliness is unnecessary because Broccoli already possesses Cleaning magic, while specialized enchantments are treated as costly and situational. The selection thus reflects an overlap between his existing abilities and the vulnerabilities of field travel: one enhancement protects the material, one addresses environmental danger, and one supports his magical resources.

The conversation also connects the outfit to Broccoli’s Insight skill. He asks whether Insight is why he can determine the age of equipment, and the grenoil craftswoman confirms that it is. The purchase consequently does not stand apart from the book’s leveling system. Broccoli approaches gear through the same interface that governs skills and quests, reading material objects as information-bearing equipment whose age, construction, and possible enhancements can be assessed.

Amaryllis’s Gift

The decisive turn comes when the shopkeeper is still discussing the order’s feasibility. Amaryllis says they will take the outfit only if it can be ready within two hours. Broccoli nearly chokes at the prospect and admits that he cannot afford such an expense. Amaryllis, already aware of his financial position, answers that she has gold and does not. She frames the payment as a gift for preventing her kidnapping and ransom rather than as charity without cause.

Broccoli objects that the purchase is too much, but Amaryllis dismisses the concern and adds that the new equipment will at least let him stand beside her without being an embarrassment in his damaged armor. Her language is teasing and class-conscious, yet the action is generous and precise. She converts a prior rescue into tangible support, while also insisting that Broccoli’s place beside her should be made visible through equipment suited to the partnership. The transaction therefore carries both repayment and recognition: Amaryllis acknowledges that Broccoli’s contribution had real value, and she invests in his continued ability to accompany her.

Role in Broccoli’s Progression

The armor purchase belongs to a larger pattern in Broccoli’s development, in which ordinary actions are translated into advancement by the world’s system. A mysterious quest first calls him to oppose a great evil and offers the alternatives to accept or refuse. Cleaning a room then becomes a Special Action aligned with his Class and unlocks the Cleaning skill. Killing three Sentinel Ghosts grants bonus experience for defeating enemies above his level and raises his Cinnamon Bun class to level 1. Finding the Evil Root produces a quest update that instructs him to break the Core so that the Root will starve, and completing the task triggers the system’s declaration that the world thanks him for his sacrifice. After a departing party leaves him behind, repeating social actions sufficiently even unlocks Friendmaking as a general skill.

Against that background, the enchanted outfit is a material counterpart to these abstract rewards. The system measures actions through quests, skills, experience, and class levels; Amaryllis’s gift measures Broccoli through trust and repayment. His equipment does not erase his unusual limitations—he still describes himself as a poor fighter—but it acknowledges that utility, movement, and persistence can constitute an adventuring contribution. The outfit gives physical support to the same incremental progression represented elsewhere by Cleaning, Jumping, class advancement, and Friendmaking.

Significance

Enchanted Armor Purchase is significant because it joins practical preparation with social belonging. Broccoli enters the shop with damaged armor, limited money, and a combat identity that must be explained across cultural and linguistic boundaries. He leaves the transaction conceptually positioned as someone who can stand beside Amaryllis on equal adventuring ground, even though she remains wealthier and more experienced in the immediate exchange.

The scene also contrasts two economies. In a dungeon, monsters may occasionally drop knives, making identical weapons nearly free in the independent city Amaryllis describes; in the shop, a custom outfit and its enchantments require skilled production, money, and time. Broccoli’s equipment therefore sits at the intersection of dungeon-generated abundance and craft-based scarcity. Its value comes not only from its materials but from the fit between enchantment and person, between garment and Class, and between protection and the relationship that makes the purchase possible. The result is both an upgrade in survivability and a visible sign that Broccoli’s adventure is becoming shared rather than solitary.
